An Uncooperative Weather Day!

I woke up about 8:00 to the smell of something good.  John was cooking "hunky" eggs for breakfast.  They were so good!  He worked on next month's bills and then we got ready for church.  Being our last Sunday here on Jekyll, we were disappointed when the we realized the regular pastor wasn't there today.  He was recovering from cataract surgery.  It was kind of ironic, because the pastor that we love at our home church was preaching his last sermon there today, so we won't get to see him either :((  We did meet a couple a from York.  We hope to visit with them before we leave Jekyll.  They had Fellowship time with goodies afterward, so we weren't hungry for lunch (plus we had only finished breakfast at 9:30). We were hoping to go to the beach today, but it was drizzling when we came out of church.  The sun never really did pop through, so we just hung around the CG again today.  Bonnie called and we chatted a while.  John took a nap and I took Kylie for a walk.  I visited with Wanda and Wally for a bit... they were picking crabs.  I didn't want to stay too long or they might have asked me to help!  They have caught over 700 of them since they've been here!!  When John got up we played Hand and Foot and Five Crowns.  I beat him pretty badly at both.  So I challenged him to a round of miniature golf that's down across from Great Dunes beach.  He beat me by 6 strokes.  I had 2 really bad holes... that was the difference.  But I'll be the first to admit that John played well!

It's a cute course, but not too challenging!

We saw this young deer on the way back from the golf course.

I realized that today was Bonnie and Ken's 46th wedding anniversary, so I called and John and I sang "Happy Anniversary" to them.  WOW!  Where do the years go?!?   We
pretty much watched football outside in our new screen house the rest of the day.  (Sorry, I forgot to take a picture again).  John grilled a flat iron steak for supper and we did eat inside for that.  Man, it was good!  TW sent me a text that said, "My child just walked up to me and said, "smell this, it stinks".  I wonder where he got that from?!?!?!  Then we went back outside to watch the Eagles play the Panthers on Sunday Night Football.  We went to bed about 10:45.  The Eagles are losing 13-21 right now.  Hopefully, they can pull it out!

Spent a Relaxing Day in the CG Today!

I woke up at 9:00!  John was still out walking.  He got back about 9:30.  I finally crawled out of bed at 10:30 after watching several episodes of Fixer Upper on HGTV.  We had breakfast, then I got a shower while John took our dirty clothes down to the laundry.  I put all my shells away and did the dishes, and John went back down to the laundry to switch the clean clothes over to the dryers.  When he got back he did some cleaning up outside while I attempted to "fix my face".  I know what you're thinking..."that must have taken a while". Ha! Ha!  We both went down to the laundry to fold the wash.  After we put the laundry away we got in the Jeep and headed to Walmart to pick up the screen house we ordered.  When we got back it was a little after 3:00 and we wanted to set it up to watch the Penn State/Maryland game at 3:30.  We had lots of time because it is it supposed to take just 3 minutes to set up.  Yeah... right!!  Just as we started the LoPiccolo's (the couple from Manheim) walked by.  They stopped to chat and helped us with the set up.  It took 4 of us about 30 minutes to do it, but it was pretty easy.  It shouldn't take us as long next time!!  We love it.  It suits our needs very well.  I'll get a picture for you tomorrow.  But the table that took us so long to pick up at Camping World yesterday is another story.  It was defective... impossible to put together.  No, really, 2 of the pieces were on the frame backwards, there was no way to assemble it.  You thought it was just us, didn't you?!?  So that will go back Monday or Tuesday and we'll look at some other ones.  I made lunch and we ate and watched the game while inside the screen house.  It was delightful not to be bothered by the bugs/mosquitos!!  The game was a nail biter, but I'm happy to report that Penn State pulled it out... somehow.  Score was 31-30.  WHEW!!  Then we took Kylie for a walk down to the laundry, because I had mentioned how badly she needs a bath and John said he saw a laundry tub outside the back.  We wanted to check if it had hot water.  It does, so guess who will be getting a much needed bath!!  We spent the rest of the evening inside Harvey watching more college football, checking our bills/budget for next month and working on the blog.  Sorry, no pictures today.  John didn't see anything during his walk and we didn't go anywhere exciting enough to take any.

A Day on Cumberland Island, GA.

I got up at 7:45 and John went out walking.
Looks like this hawk was posing, huh?

An Ibis
I made the bed, put the clean dishes away, packed up the beach bag, and took Kylie out.  John got back about 9:00 and made egg sandwiches.  I did some vacuuming and then we left for St. Mary's at 9:45.  I talked to Heather and Cooper on the way.  We had to check in at the ferry by 11:15 for our 11:45 ferry ride over to Cumberland Island.  We had some time to kill, so I walked a few blocks to the main drag to take some pictures.

The whole middle of the main street was decorated
for Halloween with scenes from represented businesses.

Plumbers

Theater Company.

Schooling

Park Ranger

The downtown was full of little quaint shops.
After a 15 minute briefing on Island etiquette we boarded the ferry at about 12:00.
A picture from the dock before we left.
We got to the island at 12:40 and had a 20 minute walk to the beach.
Driftwood on the shore line.

The trees are all gnarly from the sea air and create
quite a canopy for John to walk through.

This hammock was right beside the wooden walkway onto the beach.
It was pretty Underwhelming!  We were under the impression that there were lots of big shells on the island, but we didn't find much!!  The beach was nice, but the water was dirty just like on Jekyll.  As a matter of fact, the whole beach reminded us of South beach on Jekyll.  We could have saved a bunch of money and time if we would have just stayed on Jekyll.  In all fairness, though, there is more to see on the island... lots of history.  Oh, well, consider it another adventure!
Here's our haul from today.  John found the
beautiful conch shell and sea urchin (2nd down
from top right corner)

View from dock before we left the island.

There are lots of wild horses on the island.

We left the beach at 3:30 to make sure we would not be late for the 4:45 ferry.  It was a little nippy going back.
Nothing but water!

This sail boat was tied up at the dock when we got in.
We were back on shore by 5:30.  We stopped at Winn Dixie on the way home and pulled into our parking spot at 6:30.
Gorgeous sunset on the causeway into Jekyll!

These are called "Red Bugs".  They owned or rented
and used like golf carts all over the island!
It was another long day for Kylie, but she did great!  She was anxious to go outside, though!  We had supper and watched TV.  Then I cleaned and oiled today's shells, bleached some sand dollars, and worked on my blog.
These are the finished product... all oiled up!
John went to bed about 11:00 and I finished the blog about 1:00.  Tomorrow there will be no schedules and we will stay close to home!

Another Beautiful Day at Fernandina Beach in Florida

When I got up at 8:00 John was already out walking.  When he got back we had some breakfast and then got changed into our beach garb.  John called to get reservations on the Ferry at St. Marys to go over to Cumberland Island tomorrow.  We wanted to leave for Fernandina Beach by 9:30 and we did!!  We got there at about 11:00 and the tide was just starting to come back in.  I had to work fast!!
I love this beach!  It's so beautiful!

The water is warm and clean!

The breeze helped make good waves for this surfer.

I was mostly looking for my "baby ears" and it started out very slow!  But I got "zoned in" and started finding them.  I also found some olive, tiger eye, and turkey wing shells, and some other asst. ones.  I even found a piece of sea glass and a dime!!  My best find was a 5 and 1/2 inch by 4 and 1/2 conch shell.
Before mineral oil...

...after mineral oil.  Makes quite a difference!
John found a couple sand dollars.  Believe it or not, but the first I sat on my chair was 3:00.  I just never get tired of looking for shells!!  John did a lot of walking, too.  He was tired.
Poor guy needed a nap after all that walking!

Finally got to rest my "pigs"
We called the Camping World in Jacksonville to see if they had the 32 inch square aluminum folding table that we saw on line.  They had 2, so we decided to drive down to look at them.  We left about 3:30.  They were open until 6:00, so we had plenty of time... so we thought.  We passed a Target on the way, so we stopped there to look at the round poly resin one I scoped out the day I went shopping.  I wanted John to see it before we went to Camping World.  John put Camping World of Jacksonville, Florida in the GPS and off we went.  There was a billboard on I-95 that said to take Exit 368B.  When we got to Exit 357 "Bonnie", our GPS had us get off there.  I told John the billboard said 368B, but John really likes to listen to his GPS.  His thinking is that she knows the faster route and we were traveling in rush hour.  So how could I argue with that?!?  Well, 15 miles later we arrived at our destination, except there was no Camping World there!!  By now it was 5:30.  We put the actual address in and it took us right back onto I-95 and said we should arrive at 5:50.  I swear that from that point on we hit every light, fender bender and traffic jam possible.  We got real close and then got behind a car with one of those temporary spare tires on it that was being escorted by a pick up with its flashers on.  Give me a break!!  By the grace of God we arrived with about 3 minutes to spare.  There was no way we were leaving without that table.  Hope we like it as much as all the people who gave it rave reviews!!!  All right, I can't blame John completely.  The cashier told us that our GPS took us to their old location.  But I still had to give John the business and remind him of the billboard that we should have followed.  One for the old lady...YEAH!!!  We stopped at Zaxby's on the way home to get some chicken.  Poor Kylie was probably sitting with her legs crossed... we had been gone almost 10 hours!!  Kylie had done great... no accidents.  We ate supper and then got showers.  I got some chicken out of the freezer to cook to make some chicken salad.  Our friend, Joyce Hershey from Church called and we chatted for about a half hour.  John had put the chicken on the stove while Joyce and I were talking.  We watched some football while I was waiting for the cooked chicken to cool.  I started cutting up veggies for the chicken salad and for the soup I was going to make with the broth.  John went to bed about 10:30.  I finished up the chicken salad, did the dishes and went to bed at 11:30.  It was a really fun day, even with the Camping world detour!!

Cindy Went A'Shoppin' on Another Windy Day

I woke up about 9:00 and John was already out walking.  He got back shortly after I got up.  He had already done over 10,000 steps (4 miles).  He got pics of some different buddies today.

She is so beautiful!!

John said she was pretty close and then followed him on the path.

He spotted a dolphin near the fishing pier.

These are some sort of crab

I believe this is a Great Egret

There's the Spoon Bill from behind.

When you stay in the CG for a month you get a lighted
lamppost with your name and home state sign attached.

The sites are very large and easy to get in!  Zoom in to get a
good look at our funky light hanging on the left side of the awning.
We got it at the Hershey RV show.

He insisted on cooking breakfast and suggested that I take a day to go shopping.  I thought about it for less than 10 seconds and because I felt an overwhelming desire to please him, I agreed!  Am I a good wife or what?!?!  So I took a shower and got ready to go.  John mentioned that he would like to go to the beach later the afternoon, so I should TRY to get back at a reasonable time, if possible.  (those darned conditions :) His breakfast was delicious!   I was out the door at 11:00 with a list of groceries, a vacuum for Harvey, and a round table to fit inside our new screen house.  But, don't forget, I had to start at Beall's Outlet since I didn't get  there last week.  I spent almost 2 hers at Beall's and only got a few things.  Then I went to TJ Maxx and Pier 1 but didn't get anything in either one of those stores.  (I'm being good!). Then on to Target to look at tables and vacuums.  I had bought a small Dirt Devil Stick vacuum at a garage sale this summer to use in Harvey.  But yesterday we realized by accident that it wasn't picking up any of Kylie's hair!!  We had no idea!  It's no wonder Harvey has been smelling so much like a dog!!  We have been buying candles to help with the smell!  I found a Bissell "Bolt" stick vacuum with a revolving plastic brush especially made for picking up pet hair  (the Dirt Devil had no revolving brushes), and it has a removable hand vac with attachments.  And it's rechargeable... no cord... and the handle folds down for easy RV storage.  We tried it when I got it home and it was embarrassing how much dirt and hair was in the carpet.  YUCK!  Target also had a round table made out of the same hard plastic material that is used on today's most popular folding tables.  It folds in half and the legs fold up, too.  It is pretty heavy though, so I decided to wait to buy it until John takes a look at it.  Another option might be to get an aluminum one from Camping World.  But they are pretty pricey!  I left Target at what I thought was 2:30 and called John to let him know I just had to stop at the grocery store and then I'd be home. (My goal was 3:00).  But when I looked at the clock in the Jeep it was 3:30!!  My watch had stopped!!  I called John back to apologize, but he really wasn't alarmed or surprised.  He knows how all time stops when I shop!  He's so sweet!!  I got back about 4:20, changed clothes and then we headed to the beach near the Holiday Inn to look for sharks teeth.  But there were none to be had.  It was very windy and it even rained a bit, so I was ready to go after about 45 minutes.  There was a nice rainbow, though.  I sat on the steps wrapped in a towel while waiting for John to come back.  Even though he walked some more while I was shopping he still wanted to get more steps in.  He ended the day with almost 25,000.  WOW!!

See the rainbow...there's more!

I took this while sitting on the steps... freezing!

John hurried back when he saw me... awwww!!

When we got back John grilled a ham steak and we had leftover mac and cheese with it.  It sure was good!  Mom called to check on us.  It was so nice to have her call and to chat.  Everyone is doing well.  YEA!!  Then we went to DG for blizzards.  I know, I know we don't need it.  We saw 20 deer on the way back!  Last night we saw 14.  I never get tired of seeing those beautiful creatures!!  We played a game of Nerts...I creamed him... and John went to bed at 11:00.  I turned in about 12:15. After finishing this blog.
