The Hunt for Shrimp is on!

I didn't wake up until almost 9:00 this morning.  I have this retirement thing down pat, now, don't I?!?  After John took a walk we talked about what we wanted to do today.  We were both hungry for shrimp (especially since we didn't make it to the Shrimpfest) so John found a seafood market in Port Royal.  He also needed a new book, so he found a bookstore in Beaufort.  We decided to make these trips and then just hang around Harvey today, watch some football and I'll work on some of my pins.  Off we went... the seafood market was closed and the bookstore wasn't open yet.  A Kmart was next door, so we got a few supplies there.  We had no luck at the bookstore.  We decided to eat lunch at a small "mom and pop" bar-b-q shack that John had stopped at for directions to the Marine Air station a few days ago.  Guess what... it was closed!  We decided to give up and on the way back home we passed a Piggly Wiggly grocery store.  Not only did we just want to be able to say we stopped there, but we thought they would probably have shrimp.  NOPE!!  Luckily, though, they were able to tell us where to go to get some.  WHEW!!  Route 21 Market was open and had fresh local shrimp.  However, they were whole with 8 inch long whiskers, beady eyes, and a sharp spine on the top of there heads. The gal there told us to just "flick" the heads off with your thumb.  Easy for her to say!  We bought scallops, too.  We came home ate leftovers for lunch and then watched football on the TV outside while I worked on my pins at the picnic table.

John called me over to the other side of the RV to show me a visitor we had in one of the storage bins underneath Harvey.

How appropriate to have a real frog on board!
At supper time when we started to peel the shrimp this gooey yellow stuff came out of the bottom of their heads when you "flicked" them off.  We didn't know if it was brains or guts.  I scared the "bejeepers" out of John by pretending one of the shrimp was still alive!  We cleaned and rinsed them all and grilled them on skewers.  They weren't very good... kind of mushy...and the scallops tasted very fishy.  We were so disappointed!  After we cleaned up we took a bike ride out our road to "Elliot's Beach" to watch the sunset.  It was beautiful!

What a cool illusion!

Day is done... gone the sun.

The rest of the evening we spent figuring out how to get our pictures on the blogs.  So go check out all the previous blogs.  We "did it," as Bennett would say.
